My friend, Jessica says:
"It costs taxpayers just $0.42 per household if the Census form is mailed back, but it costs $57 per household to follow up with people who do not respond by mail. That means that for every 1% increase in the number of households that mail the form back, taxpayers save about $85 million."
She would know, she works for the Census Bureau.
