Our First Covenant

MD Peeking Outside

They worried as only a father and mother could worry, but their worries were worlds away.  A son recently divorced, a daughter’s daughter diagnosed with a terminal illness--only to mention two of the struggles being fought.  Prayers were said and talks were had but the distance stung.  The eldest sister, wise and calm, calming the mother said:  “we’ll take care of each other, don’t worry”.  She would still worry, no doubt, but took comfort in the fact that her children compassionately would be there in her stead.

It is no different for a Heavenly Father with his earthly children.  The distance stings.  No wonder that as a first covenant when only eight years old, He has His children promise to care for one another.  “Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort...” (Mosiah 18:9).

He worries and He hopes His children will be there for one another.  He yearns to physically be there with them, to console them the way He knows best; to make His succor tangible and concrete, but He has given them this time to grow, to be tried; a time to stretch and be tested.  How consoling it must be for Him to see His children minister to one another.

His eldest Son also comforted His concerned Father when He said: “Here am I, send me”.  The Father did send His Son to earth to be with His other children, to be a Savior for them, to succor them, to give example to the rest of mankind of mourning with those that mourn, and comforting those that stand in need of comfort and ultimately to provide the way back to live with Him.

Lately, we have mourned and needed comforting.  Thank you to family and friends who have been there to mourn with us and comfort us.  We feel His love through yours.

That is why we are on earth together, in families, to do exactly as you wrote. Love you!

love your analogies between eldest sister and Eldest Brother, siblings taking care of each other, and parents being far away, yet so close.
Thank you!
LOVE YOU!

You have all made it possible for us to be away. Thank you for your words, Ann, and your courage and faith!

And, how much we NEED our Savior's example in order to be good succorers and comforters and mourners with those that mourn. Thank you for the reminder of our Father's love and His need for us to comfort His children. I hope that you will have comfort and feel His love today, through His Spirit and, hopefully, through another of His children.

Thanks for that Ann. I was at my parents for the 4th. A little piece of me was mourning because I knew there was not a big Knudsen bash going on down the street. OH how I will miss the most amazing family in the world! My mom told me about your sweet daughter and how hard it is for your parents to be away. You have incredible faith and such wisdom! I love you and send my prayers!
